So I ended up purchasing the Passport Qi-45 and had it installed by a friend who installs automotive electronics for a living. I trusted him to do the work well and he did a very nice job and placed the tiny controller in the dash. Make sure who ever installs this piece of equipment is both very qualified and very experienced. Though many people can probably take a half a day and do it themselves. I would not recommend this however, unless you have previously done a 12v product install in a vehicle and know how to easily pull wires through the firewall. I would recommend saving time and headaches by having a professional do this job. Make sure that you tell them exactly how you want it mounted and where you want the control unit to be placed. Looks very nice and discret in my Honda S2000 convertible. I never have to worry about turning it off, unplugging it or remembering to hide it. The Escort Qi45 supposedly stands for “quick install 45 minutes”. It seemed to take most people a little longer than that but that is to be expected when wiring something like this up. It may indeed be possible for someone who has installed a lot of these to install one in a big SUV where you have a lot of room. However, if this is your first time and you have a sports car, installation time will be quite a bit longer. This is not really a downside to the radar detector itself. Just a little bit of misleading marketing we wanted you to be aware of.
